Joseph Bertrand is an Entrepreneur / Founder at Maker North. Born and raised in Northern Ontario, Joseph is a long time resident of Sault Ste. Marie where he has built a home, raised a family and worked much of his career.
Joseph graduated from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario with his Bachelor of Art in Sociology in 1984. Following graduation, Joseph worked for the City of Sault Ste. Marie’s Public Works and Transportation department as well as Community and Social Services. Joseph retired from his employment in the public service in May 2018 and is now putting his talents to great use at Maker North.
Joseph is a Tech / RC enthusiast. He loves building and piloting drones and spends much of his time 3D printing for fun. Joseph is a strong advocate of additive manufacturing as an economic and social engine in our community. His knowledge and passion in this area is sure to take Maker North and our members to great heights!
Helen Scott is a lawyer, social justice champion and entrepreneur. Born and raised in Elliot Lake, Helen now lives in Sault Ste. Marie with her partner, Ali, and their 5 children.
Prior to founding Maker North, Helen earned her Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (Co-op) degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario and her Law degree (LL.B.) from the University of Victoria in Victoria, BC. She worked as a lawyer locally for 10 years and operated the Pet Valu on Second Line West with her family for 13 years prior to that.
Helen is a natural problem solver with a passion for community engagement. She has a strong vision of positive change in Sault Ste. Marie driven by local citizens and entrepreneurs. In addition to managing our operations, Helen leads our efforts to create partnerships with local people, businesses and organizations. An entrepreneur herself, Helen loves to help people find their own path to developing and marketing their ideas and is excited to share her skills and experience with members and clients who are on that journey.
